DEBUNKING COVID-19 MYTHS

Myth 1: "COVID-19 is just like the flu."

CDC Fact: COVID-19 is caused by a different virus than the flu. While they share some symptoms, COVID-19 is generally more contagious and can be more severe.

Myth 2: "Face masks don't work."

CDC Fact: Masks are effective at reducing the spread of respiratory droplets and can help prevent COVID-19 transmission. Proper mask usage is recommended, especially in crowded or indoor settings.

Myth 3: "Only older people are at risk."

CDC Fact: While older adults are more vulnerable to severe COVID-19 outcomes, people of all ages can contract the virus and experience serious illness or long-term complications.

Myth 4: "COVID-19 vaccines alter DNA."

CDC Fact: COVID-19 vaccines do not alter your DNA. They work by teaching your immune system to recognize and fight the virus.

Myth 5: "Hydroxychloroquine cures COVID-19."

CDC Fact: Numerous studies have shown that hydroxychloroquine is not an effective treatment for COVID-19 and can be harmful.

Myth 6: "COVID-19 is a hoax."

CDC Fact: COVID-19 is a real and highly contagious disease that has caused a global pandemic. Thousands of scientific studies and healthcare workers have confirmed its existence.

Myth 7: "You can get COVID-19 from vaccines."

CDC Fact: COVID-19 vaccines do not contain live virus and cannot give you COVID-19. They help your body build immunity to the virus.

Myth 8: "You don't need to get vaccinated if you've had COVID-19."

CDC Fact: Vaccination is still recommended for individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. It can provide stronger and more lasting immunity than natural infection alone.

  • People aged 65 years and older may get a 2nd dose.
